Urdaibai's Passes

It climbs some of the best cycling passes in Urdaibai: Muniketa, the Balcony of Bizkaia, Nabarniz, Paresi, Jainko, and Errigoiti

Urdaibai's Passes

A beautiful yet tough route that runs through some of the most important mountain passes in Urdaibai. Starting from Muxika, we’ll climb Muniketa, the Balcony of Bizkaia and Nabarniz, cross the river at Gernika and head for the mountain passes on the left bank.

We’ll tackle the most demanding one, Paresi, and then climb the lower peaks of Jainko (Arrieta) and Errigoiti. The route ends with a lovely descent that we’ll appreciate after this challenging route.

What to see on the route?

From the Muniketa pass, there are exceptional views and you can see the sea and Duranguesado on the other side.

The climb to the Paresi hermitage is one of the toughest passes in Bizkaia.

To route to the Jainko neighbourhood, meanwhile, it’s short but challenging and takes you along very picturesque roads between farmhouses.
