Way of St. James and the Oppidum of Arrola
On this mountain bike route, we suggest you follow the Way of St. James in the opposite direction, from Gernika to the Astorkigana pass, through the Arratzu oak grove and the Golako river, over which stands the splendid medieval bridge of Artzubi.
We can then climb up to Mount Arrola, where the Oppidum of Arrola, dating from the Iron Age, is located. This is the starting point of the most popular enduro descent in Urdaibai. Once in Arratzu, we can enjoy a popular pinchtxo, before returning to Gernika via Ajangiz.

What to see on the route?
On this route, you’ll pass through the village of Ajangiz, an exceptional natural viewpoint of Gernika and the fertile plain of the river Oka. Then, you’ll cross the stunning Romanesque bridge of Artzubi, which is totally fairytale-like, and arrive at the top of Mount Arrola, the Oppidum of Arrola, an archaeological site from the 2nd Iron Age, before tackling a fun and frenetic descent with some tough enduro sections.
