Medium-level road cycling route through Urdaibai

Oiz Challenge - Short route

This is the most accessible route of the Oiz Challenge, the bicycle touring event that’s held every year in June in the Urdaibai reserve.

This 72-kilometre route is ideal for those cyclists who want to explore the Urdaibai area for the first time or do it in a relaxed way while enjoying the scenery. Without being too demanding, the first half of the route runs along winding stretches with constant climbs and descents as you cycle along the right bank of Urdaibai.

After leaving the beaches of Laida and Laga behind, it heads towards Lekeitio along the coast through green mountain stretches. The second half of the route heads inland and runs through the Lea-Artibai region until it reaches the slopes of Mount Oiz.

This route offers beautiful views of the area’s beaches and wetlands, and while on the return journey, you can enjoy wonderful views of Urdaibai from the heights of the Balcony of Bizkaia.
